Fundraiser for the Prospect St. Firestation Art Center

Support Art in the Ironbound

Date:  Wednesday, October 30, from 6-10pm

Sumei Arts Center and the Ironbound Business Improvement District will host a fundraiser for the Prospect Street Firestation Art Center to Support Art in the Ironbound.

slide_gallery2The Prospect Street Firestation Art Center is Newark’s newest and most talked about hot-spot for art, showcasing artists from the Ironbound, Newark and our region side by side with outstanding artworks from countries around the world.
The event will feature artists from the current Firestation exhibition Ironbound Unbound #4. On hand will be many of the featured artists to talk about their work
The Prospect Street Firestation Art Center, located in the Ironbound, is a collaboration between Sumei Multidisciplinary Arts Center, Councilman Augusto Amador’s office, the Ironbound Business Improvement District, and the Newark Arts Council, with the cooperation and support of the Newark Fire Department. Their mission is to bring art and cultural programs to the Ironbound and Newark to benefit the community and attract Cultural Tourism to the neighborhood and the city.
01 Heejung-Kim1Over the past year, the Firestation has presented panel discussions and high quality solo shows, as well as group exhibitions of emerging artists from our area, showing their work side by side with New Jersey and international artists – building bridges between our local community and arts and culture from around the world. Ironbound Unbound #4 features Ironbound and Newark artists such as Harry Prott, Sonia Valente, and Gianluca Bianchino, with New Jersey and international artists such as Heejung Kim, Sergio Rivero, Yen Hua Lee and Stina Brockman, to name only a few. Adding to the program have been a showing and panel discussion of Newark Filmmaker AJ Jackson’s film “Missing”, and a presentation of the history and appreciation of Portuguese ceramic folk art, as well as music and poetry from the US, Spain and Portugal.
The fundraiser will support programs for the coming year and plans to expand the art center at the Firestation.
